How to use AlpRoute

1. Getting started

Just open alproute.com in your browser — no download needed. You'll see a map with coloured pins showing overnight stops, campsites and more. You can browse freely without an account.

On your phone you can add AlpRoute to your home screen so it opens like a real app. See section 11.

2. The buttons you'll use

Everything is reachable from two places: a bottom bar and four round buttons in the top corners.

Search — find a city or place by name.
Add — share a new spot you found.
Compare PRO — compare campsites side by side.
Menu — everything else: route planner, legendary routes, travel journal, nearby travellers, roadside help, account, language, this guide and more.

Corner buttons

Favorites (top-left) — show only the places you've saved with ♥.

List (top-left) — see nearby places as a scrollable list instead of pins.

Map style (top-right) — switch between street and outdoor views. Satellite and hybrid views are part of AlpRoute Pro.

Filters (top-right) — choose which categories to show, and filter by services, price, rating and whether a spot fits your vehicle. A small number shows how many filters are active.

3. Finding places on the map

Move the map by dragging with your finger (or mouse).
Zoom with two fingers, the mouse wheel, or the + / − buttons.
Tap a pin to see details: photos (or a satellite view), services, price and reviews.

"Search this area" button

When you move the map to a new area, tap the green Search this area button near the top. AlpRoute looks up real stops in that area and adds them to the map. Move wherever you like, then tap it again.

4. Searching

Tap Search in the bottom bar, then:

Type a city or place (for example "Nice" or "Lake Garda") and press Enter or Go — the map jumps there. Then tap Search this area to load stops.
Places already on the map whose name matches are highlighted too.

5. What the colours mean

Each pin colour is a type of place. Open Filters → Categories to show or hide a type.

To keep the map clean, only the four "stay" types (parking, campsite, wild, picnic) show by default. Turn on service areas, shops and roadside help any time in Filters → Categories.

6. Adding a place

Found a great spot? Share it:

Tap Add in the bottom bar.
Tap on the map where the place is.
Fill in the name, type, and a short description (a photo helps too).
Tap Save place.

Adding a place requires a free account — sign in first. Your place is shared with the whole AlpRoute community after a quick review.

7. Favorites & List

Tap the ♥ on any place to save it to your Favorites. Then tap the Favorites button (top-left star) to see only your saved places. Tap List (top-left) any time to browse nearby places as a list. With an account, your favorites sync across your devices.

8. Travel journal

Open Menu → Travel journal to keep a diary of places you've stayed. Add notes and photos for each stop, and keep more than one journal for different trips. With an account, your journal is saved safely in the cloud. If you plan a route (Pro), you can also save it and share it with friends.

9. Account & sign in

You can use the map without an account.
Sign up (email + password) to sync your favorites, journal and shared places across devices, and to use Pro features.
Forgot your password? Use the "Forgot password" link on the sign-in screen.
Want to leave? You can delete your account and data at any time — just contact contact@alproute.com.

10. AlpRoute Pro PRO

Pro is an optional subscription — €24.99/year or €4.99/month, cancel anytime — that unlocks extra tools for serious travellers:

Vehicle-aware route planning — plan a trip with several stops, get the best driving order and total time, with routes sized to your vehicle. Set your profile as a campervan/motorhome (height, weight, length) or a motorcycle.
Legendary Routes 🏔 — ride Europe's iconic passes like the Stelvio and the Transfăgărășan, drawn bend by bend on the real road (see below).
One-tap navigation — send your route to Google Maps, Waze or export a GPX file for a sat-nav.
Compare campsites — put campsites side by side to quickly pick the best one.
Nearby travellers 👥 — see and message campers in your immediate area (see below).
Roadside help 🔧 — instantly find nearby mechanics, tyre shops, caravan/moto shops, fuel, LPG, water and dump stations within ~20 km. In a real emergency, always call your local emergency number (112 in Europe) first.
Satellite map view — browse the whole map in satellite or hybrid view. (The aerial photo on each place card is free for everyone.)
Save area offline — from the Menu, save the current map area so it works without internet.

The Nearby travellers portal 👥

A friendly board for campers in your immediate area (about 250 m). Open it from Menu → Nearby travellers:

Ask for help 🆘 — post a problem you have (need a tool, a tip, advice).
Share a spot 📍 — tell nearby campers about a place you liked.
Others nearby can reply to your posts. You can edit or delete anything you posted, and posts disappear after about 24 hours.
You appear under a nickname, your exact location is never shared, and you can go invisible or block anyone at any time.

Legendary Routes 🏔

Hand-picked, iconic mountain roads — starting with the Stelvio Pass and the Transfăgărășan, with more added over time. Open the catalogue from Menu → Legendary Routes:

Browse for free — everyone can open the catalogue and view any route. Tap a card and the route is drawn on the map bend by bend, on the real road, with distance, difficulty and a note on motorhome suitability.
Add to my route PRO — drop the legendary road straight into your trip plan. Choose New route to start fresh, or Append to add it to the end of your current plan.
"I rode it too" PRO — check in after riding a route. The counter on each route shows how many riders have done it — one check-in per route, forever yours.

To get Pro, open the Menu, tap a Pro feature (or your account), and choose Get Pro. Cancel anytime — see our Refund & Cancellation Policy.

11. Install on your phone

AlpRoute can sit on your home screen like an app:

iPhone (Safari): tap the Share button → Add to Home Screen.
Android (Chrome): tap the menu (⋮) → Add to Home screen / Install app.

Once added, it opens full-screen and remembers you.

12. Privacy & safety

Your exact location is only used to show the map around you and is never shared with other users.
In the Nearby portal, only a rough area and your nickname are shared — never your precise spot.
Places, roadside results and Nearby posts come from open data and other travellers, so always double-check opening hours, prices and whether an overnight stay is allowed before relying on them.
Be kind and don't share other people's personal information.
